Random Thoughts – September 24, 2015
Thanks to all of you who so graciously reacted to yesterday’s “Spotlight’s On…” post about Mr. Stars99. You really helped to make his day special and that’s really so kewl.
Mr. Stars99 is still shaking his head and fists at me because I may or may not have lied to him throughout the day about what was going to happen next. We had brunch from an amazing local French bakery and the leftover chocolate croissants called out my name all night long. Do you KNOW how hard it is to sleep knowing there’s a chocolate croissant with a French accent whispering in your ear, “Mademoiselle, you KNOW you want me… I’m just in the other room… You KNOW I’m a flakey, lighter than air bite of scrumptiousness, oui oui?… Come eat me… Ça te dit?” It’s just wrong on so many levels that my food cravings are now multilingual. Now I have to resist them in two different languages. Grrrr…
I got some awesome personal messages from some of you and you seemed to really like Mr. Stars99’s shoes… I have pictures of additional comic book shoes he has… I think he has 1 Batman, 2 Justice League, and 2 Green Lantern pairs of shoes. We get them at Journeys. He doesn’t have to deal with feet that sweat so his shoes don’t wear out on the inside and they last quite a while. People are always complimenting him on his shoes… It’s really fun.
I need to confess to you that I lied to my darling husband yesterday all day long (Hangs my head in shame…)… My favorite lie was about dinner and we decided we wanted to eat in and have a local restaurant delivery company deliver dinner to us. I made a big deal about him picking what HE wanted… He picked a Greek place that makes awesome gyros. As we were looking at the menu together, I mentioned that they didn’t have dessert and how it’s kind of a rule that you get whatever kind of dessert you want on your birthday.
The truth of the matter is that I’m the one who’s all about the dessert – Really, too often I suffer through the main course only to get to the dessert portion of our program. My Mom’s words, “You can’t have dessert if you don’t eat your vegetables” often rings in my head…lol. I dramatically told Mr. Stars99 that he needed to order whatever he wanted and that it wasn’t about me… But he almost changed his mind just so we could order from a restaurant that offered a good dessert selection – because he loves me…
I, of course knew he would do that… lol.. Because I know him. I complained that I wanted dinner to be special and I wasn’t sure how special gyros were to have on your birthday. We went back and forth about where we should order from and I finally told him we should just order the Greek food because it was his first choice… and that we had stuff that we could make for dessert. I pretended to place the order and told him the food was to be delivered by 7:00 PM. Five minutes later, a light knock was heard on our door and Mr. Stars99 answered it – It’s one of our best friends in the whole wide world standing there with balloons and dinner in hand! It was so much fun… He GLARED at me and told me he was never going to believe another word I said EVER on his birthday.
I had arranged for my friend to bring dinner from Zov’s… My husband’s favorite desserts in the entire world are the tarts from there… We found out about Zov’s several years ago when he had only been living here in Southern California for like 2 months. He flew to Michigan for a family reunion. While there, they watched a special on TV about the best desserts in the country… and Zov’s was one of the 5 that were featured. When he called me a few minutes later, he asked me how far away Tustin is from where we live… I told him about 15 minutes and it’s where I lived for about 8 years of my life…lol.
When he came home from the reunion (I couldn’t go because of stuff going on at work at the time) we went to Zov’s and were immediately hooked. In fact, instead of having a wedding cake at our beach wedding, we had tarts from Zov’s. So it’s very mentascental and very special to us both. And having one of our best friends over was awesome… Mr. Stars99 is very casual and most often prefers a quiet night home than to go out anywhere.
My friend is also an avid Survivor fan… So we all watched the premiere of Survivor together…. It was awesome. Which brings us to…
I can’t wait to read Realitiy_Bytes’ recap and perspectives about the show… Stay tuned because it will be posted in the next few days… If you missed her preview of the season, you can access it at: https://snackingandsnarking.com/2015/09/survivor-31-second-chance-season-preview/ Among other things, you will find an explanation about the two twists about the idols as well as some great info on the contestants. I actually had her post up on my computer screen as we watched – so I could see pictures of the contestants by team so I could keep track of them and be reminded of what they did during their previous Survivor experience. I really do love Survivor and have been an avid fan since Season 1. It’s really a kick to see some of the old faces return… I think it should be an INCREDIBLE season…
The show officially ended last night, but I admit it ended for me quite a while ago. I dutifully blogged the show 3 times a week for weeks and weeks… It was such a huge investment of time and energy – And I thought there would be more interest in the show than what actually happened. I think there’s interest – but viewers have a lot of choices about watching… CBS offers 3-one hour shows a week which is a lot. In addition, if you’re really a fan, you can also watch a show called “After Dark” almost every night that has footage that is mostly not included in the televised shows. Plus, if you’re really a HUGE fan, you can sign up and watch the 24/7 live feeds of what goes on in the house as it happens.
As a result of all of this, some people know days ahead about the results of competitions before they’re ever televised. I think it was difficult to talk about the televised shows as they were being aired when you already know what’s happened 2 competitions later… It was just wonky to try to recap it and comment about it… when some people know so much more stuff. It was hard of us to know how much to say because we didn’t want to “spoil” it for anyone… but it’s hard to talk about wondering how it’s going to turn out when you already know EXACTLY how it turns out.
However, I really do appreciate those of you who read and participated in those discussions. I’m new to this show – I’ve only seen a couple of seasons… So I don’t know all the ins and outs of it yet. You all have been a wealth of information and I’m so thankful for it.
I am, however, still enjoying the UK’s Celebrity version of Big Brother – It’s played very differently. It would be hilarious for it to be implemented here… lol.
Are you happy with last night’s winner?
The Great Food Truck Race
I just watched this week’s show on the DVR this morning. This show is winding down and it’s really just “MEH” to me… I watch it while I’m doing something else, which is never a good sign. After this week’s show (which eliminated the truck from Orange County, boooo!) they are down to 2 trucks. One truck features a team that delays their participation in challenges so they can go to church (Mormon)… The other team’s truck broke down on the very first leg of the competition so they were forced to rent another one to use for the rest of the race. Both teams have fought hard and are really different in their food offerings so it may be interesting to see who wins.
Don’t Be Tardy
A couple of you have asked me about why I stopped blogging “Don’t Be Tardy.” It really came down to a personal decision for me. I’ve not watched this show for several seasons because I really didn’t personally want to watch Kim on another show. I hated that she flaunted having an affair with a rich, married man all those seasons on Real Housewives of Atlanta… I mean, it’s her choice and she can do whatever she wants of course, but I just don’t have to watch it. Her persona just really got to me… Among other lies, I didn’t like how she pretended like she had cancer and it was only after she was asked very pointed questions by Andy on a reunion show where the truth came out – that she didn’t actually have cancer – but she had a cancer scare and was worried until the test results came back. News flash… YOU DIDN’T HAVE CANCER…
So, fast forward to this show, where she seems totally happily married to Kroy, and I’m happy for her. Brielle and her boyfriend are hilarious because they’re just so clueless about life. And while the show is fun to watch, I just can’t get past who Kim is and what she’s teaching her kids about life. In addition, I don’t think she’s been truthful about the work that’s been done on her face and it’s insulting to the viewer’s intelligence. I mean, you don’t have to tell us what you’ve had done… just don’t lie about not having work done. You look TOTALLY different than on your Real Housewives of Atlanta days.
I just didn’t want to give her air time on this site on a continuing basis in the form of an entire blog each week.
As you can imagine, I was busy with birthday boy yesterday and will likely blog Ladies of London and The Great British Baking Show in the next day or so. I’ve only seen the first 10 minutes of Ladies of London and I’m so excited to blog about it…lol… It’s such a funny show…
We are so happy that all the fall shows are returning but it means our DVR is getting full… Such pressure! Lol… Our favorite, The Big Bang Theory is back – although I’m nervous about this season… but I’m keeping an open mind… We loved watching the always quirky Scorpion… and all of the versions of NCIS… We needed a Gibbs’ fix for sure. I also want to watch The Voice but it’s such a time investment… UGH… So many shows to watch… So little time.
Plus, I’m still working on making all the changes that were required by the site upgrade. Not to bore you, but with this upgrade I can NOW make fun pushbuttons… It’s hilarious, because I love the choices that I have – but there’s like 30 decisions you have to make with each button… the color, the frame color, the hover color, the text color, the text color when it hovers, the outline, if there is an outline, do you want shadow or no shadow… do you want a small, medium or large button, or if you’re a pain like I am, you can make a custom size, do you want the text to be centered, an icon or no icon, do you want any animation and if so, what kind… and on and on… It makes my brain explode a little… but if you click HERE and hover over the buttons, you will see the outcome of my decisions… I know it may not look like much… but it took hours for this formatting perfectionist to get to the point that I liked what I saw… lol
Hope ya’ll are doing well! Happy trails! Tomorrow I plan to post Ladies of London…ooOOOOooo… I also may throw in something fun like a poll or a “caption this meme” for good measure… lol…
See ya later, alligator…
After awhile, crocodile…
Pretty soon, baboon….
ooOOOoo that reminds me of the most cringeworthy departing statements ever coined on a reality show… You know how on reality shows they always say something to the departing contestants… For example, Tim Gunn says something like, “I need to ask you to pack up your things and leave” and Jeff Probst says, “The tribe has spoken”… Well, on Top Design, Jonathan Adler would say in a weird sing songy voice, “See you later, decorator” and I think it made me sick every single time he said it. Ugh… I don’t know why I felt I needed to share that… but it’s what goes on in my head… Scary, oui?
