Sometimes it seems this world and our country has gone completely crazy. Today’s political shooting in Alexandria chilled me to the bone. The inflammatory rhetoric that is so easily tossed around as cheap jokes suddenly isn’t so funny.
This stuff is real. People are deeply angry about what’s going on in our country. Unfortunately, some are also batcrapcrazy. Violence is not the answer.
Yet we MUST work together to find the answer. We must do better. We must demand that lawmakers too, do better.
One automatic assault rifle…
Today’s shootings could have been worse, much worse – if not for the security detail that immediately sprung into heroic action. The fact this all happened at a baseball practice – which was once widely known as “America’s favorite pastime” – seems so wrongfully symbolic.
This week alone, we have had so many tragedies on our mind… Pulse Nightclub, Sandy Hook Elementary School, Manchester, London… and now Alexandria.
Today, I had planned to post my latest scorching letter to Ramona because her behavior has been so completely egregious on the Real Housewives of New York City.
Clearly, a post like that would be tone deaf in light of today’s shootings. I understand how we might want to turn to some mindless entertainment so we can momentarily escape the harsh realities of the world we live in… but it just feels wrong to me at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow.
Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with all involved… And with our country… And with the world.
Grace and peace to us all.
